It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash from that lemonade stand you put up outside your house.
Don’t forget to tweet us your picks @FoxForce5News #ff5comics
A rag-tag team of villians set out on a journey through the Deadlands of Battleworld in search for the infamous Red Skull. I’m looking forward to picking this up to see what Joshua Williamson and Luca Pizzari have planned for anti-heroes like Magneto, Electro, and Winter Soldier, and how these character interact. Red Skull has escaped to the Deadlands to elude Doom after an attempted uprising, so we’ll see what enemies this elite team will have to face as they track him down.
More secrets are revealed as this issue, the half-way point of the series. Doctor Strange educates the group of heroes who had survived collision of the final Marvel worlds, on how Doom was able to create Battleworld. What is next for the survivors on the “Life Raft”? What about the other survivors, The Cabal? Still so many secrets left to be revealed with this book, cannot wait to get my hands on it.
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #7 – $3.99
Squirrel Girl VS. Girl Squirrel!! And if that doesn’t grab your attention, Squirrel Girl VS. The Avengers!! What more could you possibly want in a comic? With this much action, I’m surprised Ryan North and Erica Henderson can fit it into 22 pages.
We Stand on Guard #1– $2.99
It seems fitting that Brian K. Vaughan’s new action packed, military book is being released on Canada Day. Accompanied by fellow Canadian, Steve Skroce, this futuristic book follows a group of freedom fighting Canadians as they attempt to defend themselves against the invading neighbours to the south, United States of America. Oh, did I forget to mention this comic also features gigantic robots!
The Wicked + The Divine #12 – $3.50
Hopefully by now readers have collected the pieces of their heads, after Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, and Matt Wilson delivered a mind-blowing conclusion to the second story arch with issue 11. It couldn’t have felt like a longer wait since then, but the third arch debuts with guest artist Kate Brown taking over for McKelvie as the gods come to terms with the aftermath of the Fandemonium fallout.
Extra pulls: A-Force #3, Midnighter #2, Spire #1, Ultimate End #3, Years of Future Past #2
