TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY –08/05/15: JOHN FLOOD, BLOODSHOT & THE WICKED + THE DIVINE

It is Wednesday again, and this week there are tons of great titles. I keep looking over the list I made and narrowing it down to my top 5 is so difficult. I have decided this week to apply a bit of a theme to the books I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, this week I will likely be going over my budget. Here are 5 titles that shouldn’t be overlooked this week, and a 5 honorary mentions for those that are willing to stretch that wallet or have some extra cash after winning Best in Show at your local dog show.

Don’t forget to tweet us your picks @FoxForce5News #ff5comics

Bloodshot Reborn #5 – $3.99

This issue concludes the first story arc for Jeff Lemire’s Bloodshot, as Ray Garrison tries to come to terms with life without the nanites. As Bloodshot tracks down the final individuals that were infected with the nanites, after the Geomancer, Kay, expelled them from his body, he has convinced himself that he is the only suitable host for these tiny machines. Life without the nanites has been trying for Bloodshot, and it will finally be revealed if Bloodsquirt, the alternate cartoon version of himself, is in fact real of just a fracture of his subconscious. Can’t wait to read Bloodsquirt…err…Bloodshot Reborn.

John Flood #1 – $3.99

I really got into Justin Jordan’s work after reading his run on Valiants Shadowman, so I am really looking forward to this new title alongside artist Jorge Coelho. After a government experiment gone awry, a Private Investigator, John Flood, finds himself in a state where reality and dream overlap. This new talent allows him to see crime from a different perspective, hopefully there is enough evidence to track down the culprit before it is too late.

Red Skull #2 – $3.99

Joshua Williamson and Luca Pizzari bring us into the Deadlands, as a rag-tag group of villains have been rescued by the very person they were sent to find, Red Skull. Will these criminals be able to set their brutish, egos aside to take aid from the rebellious leader, and will Red Skull be able to convince them to join in his uprising against their employer, Doom. My curiosity is officially peaked, bring on more Red Skull please.

We Stand On Guard #2 – $2.99

How can I really say no to Canadian-centric storytelling from the great Brian K. Vaughn and Steve Skroce. This futuristic battle continues as an elite group of Canadian soldiers attempt to outlast and out maneuver the forces of American robots and artillery. After a fantastic over-sized first issue, I have eagerly been awaiting the second chapter of this series.

The Wicked + The Divine #13 – $3.50

Tula Lotay joins the WicDiv team, taking the reins from Jamie McKelvie, as a guest artist for this issue. Accompanied by talented colourist Matt Wilson, this issue looks to be a visually amazing (not that any previous issue isn’t). Kieron Gillen continues to skillfully craft the mythos of the many captivating characters, leaving the perfect amount of curiosity to keep the reader hooked.

Extra pulls: Civil War #2, Infinity Gauntlet #3, Midnighter #3, Nailbiter #15, Outcast #11
