TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 08/09/17: REDLANDS, MISTER MIRACLE, & BABYTEETH

Wednesday is here again, which means a new week for new comics. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but how can anyone fault us for reading. Here is a list of books I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult when there are so many quality books being published each week. So here are 5 titles to consider picking up this week.

Garry Brown

Babyteeth #3 – $3.99

Aftershock Comics – Donny Cates, Garry Brown, Mark Englert, Taylor Esposito

Okay, just what the hell is going on in this book? I mean-right? Assassins? Secret Illuminati groups? Portals to hell? Raccoon monsters? Earthquakes? Demon babies? LASER TAG FIGHTS? What the hell, Cates?
Well, look. I promise this is all going to make sense. You just gotta hang in there. This issue is great, though. You’re gonna love it.

Francesco Francavilla

Centipede #2 – $3.99

Dynamite Entertainment – Max Bemis, Eoin Marron, Chris O’Halloran, Francesco Francavilla

Dale is on a hero’s journey, but it is not one for glory. It is for revenge. He has survived this long on his own, but now he has decided the only thing left for him to do is kill the giant monster that took everything away from him!

Tyler Jenkins

Grass Kings #6 – $3.99

BOOM! Studios – Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins
New Story Arc! Following the bloody battle between townships, Robert learns that the infamous serial killer from the past might be one of their own people, and begins tearing the Kingdom apart to find them.

Mitch Gerads

Mister Miracle #1 – $3.99

DC Comics – Tom King, Mitch Gerads

From the team behind THE SHERIFF OF BABYLON and the Hugo Award-nominated writer of Vision comes a unique new take on one of Jack Kirby’s most beloved New Gods.
Scott Free is the greatest escape artist that ever lived. So great that he escaped Granny Goodness’ gruesome orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to travel across galaxies and set up a new life on Earth with his wife, the former female fury known as Big Barda. Using the stage alter ego of Mister Miracle, he has made a career for himself showing off his acrobatic escape techniques. He even caught the attention of the Justice League, which counted him among its ranks.
You might say Scott Free has everything…so why isn’t it enough? Mister Miracle has mastered every illusion, achieved every stunt, pulled off every trick-except one. He has never escaped death. Is it even possible? Our hero is going to have to kill himself if he wants to find out.
Written by Tom King (BATMAN) and illustrated by Mitch Gerads (The Punisher), this is a MISTER MIRACLE unlike any you’ve read before.

Jordie Bellaire/Vanessa Del Ray

Redlands #1 – $3.99

Image Comics – Jordie Bellaire, Vanesa Del Ray, Clayton Cowles

A brand-new horror book from the minds of Eisner Award-winner JORDIE BELLAIRE (PRETTY DEADLY, Vision, Batman) and critically acclaimed artist VANESA R. DEL REY (ZERO, Scarlet
Witch, Constantine) brings you to the sleepy, sunny town of Redlands, Florida. The police are failing to maintain control of their old-fashioned town, and a coven of killer witches plan to take everything from them. This summer, hide your bibles.
