TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 08/26/15: OLD MAN LOGAN, LANDO & NINJAK

by | Aug 25, 2015

It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash from that pie eating competition you won on the weekend

oldmanlogan4Old Man Logan #4 – $3.99

Brian Michael Bendis, Andrea Sorrentino

As Logan tries to find the answers to the many questions of the state of Battleworld, he only seems to find more questions. He jumps between territories, only to find a variety of versions of friends he once knew. But with the confusion of what exactly is taking place even, he begins to question his own memory. Change may be happening within Battleworld, but isn’t when it comes to the quality of art in this book. Like I have said before, Andrea Sorrentino illustrates some incredible work in this book and gives new life to this old character.

hankhydra1Hank Johnson Agent of Hydra #1 – $3.99

David Mandel, Michael Walsh, Amanda Conner

Hank Johnson is just your average Hydra agent, and though it might not sounds too interesting, this book is about all the average things Hank does. Normally not my kind of book, but when Marvel has got David Mandel, executive producer of Curb Your Enthusiasm, to write the book, I can only image how the simplest of task can be made comedic. Now add the art of Michael Walsh, colours from Matt Wilson, and lettering from Clayton Cowles and you have a fantastic looking book.

lando3Star Wars Lando #3 – $3.99

Charles Soule, Alex Maleev

It has only been 2 weeks since the previous issue came out, but I couldn’t be more happy Charles Soule and Alex Maleev are working so diligently. Lando and his gang have made off with the emperors most prized ships, and along with it his personal art collection. After out manoeuvring a couple star destroyers, his next task is going to be evading one of the deadliest mercenaries in the galaxy. Readers couldn’t ask for a more impressive creative team bringing this character to comics. If you want so more Soule reading this week be sure to check out Civil War #3.

fallofninjak1Book of Death Fall of Ninjak #1 – $3.99

Matt Kindt, Trevor Hairsine, Kano

As the title states, this One-Shot, Book of Death tie-ins from Valiant focuses on the story of how Ninjak meets his demise. Though that may sound depressing, the Fall of Bloodshot, offered a surprisingly fulfilling ending to the soldiers long life. However, Fall of Ninjak is the second of four character books to be released, and I would hope that Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine wouldn’t be so kind to make this ending so happy. At what cost will Ninjak go to cheat death, and live out his life as long as possible?

Also, if you want a different Ninjak story check out issue 6 also on shelves today.

deaddrop4Dead Drop #4 – $3.99

Ales Kot, Adam Gorham, Raul Allen

The Dead Drop mini-series comes to close with this issue. Ales Kot and Adam Gorham have done a spectacular job so far leading the reader into the story. This type of story is where Kot excels, he knows how to keep the readers attention, and slowly reveals only enough information to think you have solved the puzzle, only to discover you were looking at it incorrectly the whole time. So who is the centrepiece to this whole event? And what exactly are they trying to protect from falling into the wrong hands?

Extra pulls: Civil War #3, Ninjak #6, Lumberjanes #17, Sons of the Devil #4, Cyborg #2
