Wednesday is here again, which means a new week for new comics. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but how can anyone fault us for reading. Here is a list of books I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult when there are so many quality books being published each week. So here are 5 titles to consider picking up this week.
4 Kids Walk Into a Bank #5 – $3.99
Black Mask Comics – Matthew Rosenberg, Tyler Boss, Thomas Mauer
It has all come down to this. If you have somehow missed the previous four issues of this oddball coming of age story, make sure to check them out. Issue 5 is the long awaited conclusion to the beautifully constructed series from Matthew Rosenberg and Tyler Boss. The plan has finally come into fruition, and the bank is the next step for this crazy crime caper.
Bombshells United #1 – $2.99
DC Comics – Marguerite Bennett, Maguerite Sauvage, Wes Abbott, Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson
After the success of the digital first Bombshells series, Marguerite Bennett and her team begin a new chapter with the launch of a new first issue. This series focuses on the female characters of he DC universe imagined in the WWII era. Marguerite Sauvage’s stunning artwork meshes perfectly with the tone of the story.
Lark’s Killer #2 – $3.99
1First Comics – Bill Willingham, Mark Dos Santos
Lark is still on the run, but this time she has protection from her hired muscle. Displaced in a fantasy realm Lark continues to look for a way back to a reality she is more familiar with. This series is a really fun read, Lark’s story has actually taken place in the past, however it is being told to a group of explorers by a dragon they have found at the centre of a dungeon. The two plots make for a interest narrative and have me wanting more issues.
Scales & Scoundrels #1 – $3.99
Image Comics – Sebastian Girner, Galaad, Jeff Powell
If one fantasy book was not enough for you this week, make sure you check out this new series by Sebastian Girner and Galaad. In search for a special item, the treasure hunting Luvander sets out for an epic quest. All this magic and mystery in a book is appropriate for all ages, which can sometimes be a difficult find.
Venomverse: War Stories #1 – $4.99
Marvel Comics – Cullen Bunn, Declan Shalvey, Magdalene Visaggio, Tana Ford, Annapaola Martello, Francesco Mattina
This week is the big launch of Marvel’s Venomverse, and rather than highlighting the obvious main title, I decided to feature this side story. Jammed full of amazing creative talent, War Stories acts as additional content for those Venomized characters that might not make it into the spotlight. So if you have always wanted to see a Venomized Punisher or Rocket Raccoon, this book is for you.
Extra Pulls: Batman #30, Star Wars Adventures #1, Animosity: The Rise #3, The Wicked + The Divine #31, Spider-man #20
