TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 09/09/15: HEAD LOPPER, BITCH PLANET & STAR WARS SHATTERED EMPIRE

by | Sep 9, 2015

It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash from helping your elderly neighbour take out their trash.

bitchplanet5Bitch Planet #5 – $3.50

Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro, Cris Peter

The Bitches return, as this issue is long awaited continuation of the female space prison epic. The irregular shipping schedule has slowed the story’s progress, but this issue should reinvigorate readers. It is finally time for the Kam and her team of prisoners to go head-to-head against a team a male prisoners. Can the Bitches survive the death sport match and earn some leniency toward their sentence.

headlopper1Head Lopper #1 – $5.99

Andrew MacLean

So begins the fantastic adventure of a warrior and his sidekick, a severed witch head. What beastly foes will they have to go up against? This first oversized issue carries a hefty price, but is well worth it with eighty pages of dark humoured, action packed, sword wielding battles.

ninjak7Ninjak #7 – $3.99

Matt Kindt, Juan Jose Ryp, Stephen Segovia, Butch Guice, Mico Suayan

Ninjak continues his battle against the Shadow Seven, and faces his toughest villain to date, Sanguine. Matt Kindt and Juan Jose Ryp progress “The Shadow Wars”, and dive deeper into Colin King’s past. Like pervious issues, the additional “The Lost Files” story is featured at the back of the issue, with art from Butch Guice.

starwarsSEStar Wars Shattered Empire #1 – $3.99

Greg Rucka, Checchetto, Phil Noto

The creative team of Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto, previously of The Punisher series, rejoin to take on the new Star Wars canon. Taking place after the events on Return of the Jedi, Shattered Empire takes readers on a journey filling the gap in story leading to the much anticipated Force Awakens, due for theatres in December. Rucka has an amazing ability for developing characters, so it will be interesting to see what he does with the well rooted characters of the Star Wars Universe.

wicdiv14The Wicked + The Divine #14 – $3.50

Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson

Toted as the “most audacious” issue yet, I do not know what could possibly top previous issues to claim a description like this. What has Woden kept secret that could lead to an issue being categorized as such? Jamie McKelvie returns to his regular artistic duties, and the WicDiv team welcomes Grimes as a guest artist for a beautiful variant cover.

Extra pulls: Batman #44, A-Force #4, Outcast #12, Phonogram #2, Red Skull #3
