TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 09/16/15: THE BEAUTY, BLOODSHOT & TOKYO GHOST

by | Sep 16, 2015

It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash you saved by not driving 8 hours to a comic con this weekend.

blackcanary4Black Canary #4 – $2.99

Brendan Fletcher, Pia Guerra, Lee Loughridge, Annie Wu

How do you make an already amazing book even better? This issue holds the answer: add the Eisner Award winning Pia Guerra as a guest artist. Black Canary tracks down the vengeful former band member after she has kidnapped the young Ditto, but there is more to Ditto then what she knows. This issue looks to be a thrill ride, so be sure to add it to your pull list.

beauty2The Beauty #2 – $3.50

Jeremy Haun, Jason A. Hurley, John Rauch

Jeremy Haun and Jason Hurley take this complex idea behind beauty and build it into a procedural mystery. The fear that Beauty could have deadly consequences, leaves an overwhelming feeling of horror. The first issue was one of the best issues I have read this year, and it makes me very curious where this creative team plans on taking the story.

bloodshot6Bloodshot Reborn #6 – $3.99

Jeff Lemire, Butch Guice

A new arc for Bloodshot, brings Butch Guice on board as artist. What I had thought would be a short story involving Bloodshot tracking down, and re-absorbing the nanites, spills into the main focus of Jeff Lemire’s second story arc. Bloodshot’s addiction to drugs and alcohol interferes with his mission to hunt down the remaining people who have been infected with the nanites. He will have to focus on keeping those disillusions, like bloodsquirt, from getting in the way if he wants to succeed.

ratqueens12Rat Queens #12 – $3.99

Kurtis J. Weibe, Tess Fowler, Tamra Bonvillain, Stjepan Sejic

…And now back to our regular scheduled programing. That’s right folks, Rat Queens is shipping on a regular monthly schedule! I couldn’t be more excited as The Queens continue their quest exploring Hannah’s past at Mage University. Plus, hopefully we’ll see what happens to Betty after last issue’s final page. It is so great to see the wonderful artwork Tess Fowler and Tamra Bonvillain bring to this book

tokyoghost1Tokyo Ghost #1 – $3.99

Rick Remender, Sean Murphy, Matt Hollingsworth

This futuristic story is set in a time where humanity has become so attached to technology that it viewed it as addiction. Sure, this doesn’t sound like it is a too distant future, but the technology in this book is controlled by gangs, and it will be up to two constables, Led Dent and Debbie Decay, to allow this influence to spread across the world. If that isn’t enough reason to buy the book, with art from Sean Murphy and Matt Hollingsworth, this is sure to be a spectacle for your eyes.

Extra pulls: Constantine #4, All-New Hawkeye #5, Star Wars #9, Lando #4, Sex Criminals #12
