TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 09/23/15: NAMELESS, BOOK OF DEATH & POWER UP!

by | Sep 23, 2015

Wednesday! Wednesday! Wednesday! My favourite day of the week. The stack of comics I have on my night side table keeps growing larger and larger, and here I am making another list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

I try to budget my comic purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash you found hidden in a card from your 10th birthday.

bookofdeath3aBook of Death #3 – $3.99

Robert Venditti, Robert Gill, Doug Braithwaite, Cary Nord

Book of Death has been a good read so far, and looks to be getting better as Eternal Warrior and the Geomancer come to the end of their journey, when confronted by the necromancer Master Darque. With no remaining support from his former team Unity, Eternal Warrior must protect the Geomancer by himself. However it appears that Master Darque will use his ability to manipulate nature to aid in the Earths desruction. How much truth is there in the Book of the Geomancer, and is its fate avoidable?

nameless5Nameless #5 – $2.99

Grant Morrison, Chris Burnham, Nathan Fairbairn

After a couples of months since the previous instalment, Nameless returns. I will be pulling out the back issues and doing a quick re-read before diving into issue five this week. With as much mystery as there is in this book, it will be a nice little refresher on what destruction the planet is about to face. Regardless of how long this creative team makes readers wait, the result is always a fantastically written and visually stunning book.

powerup3Power Up #3 – $3.99

Kate Leth, Matt Cummings

It is books like this one, that make me love comics. After two eventful issues, the gang takes a step back to try and figure out how their powers came to be. Now that the characters have all met each other, its time to figure out a team name, and coordinate some costume before getting into any other battles. Seriously, if you haven’t done so already, track down the first couple issues when you pick up this gem.

weirdworld4Weirdworld #4 – $3.99

Jason Aaron, Mike Del Mundo

I am glad to hear that this book has been give a slot in as an ongoing title later this year. Though Jason Aaron will be missed conjuring the bizarre, I am pleased Mike Del Mundo will continue to deliver the weird with his art. Arkon has faced many deadly foes on his journey across Weirdworld, but has never had to face a beast quite like a Man-Thing. So how will he fair when he finds himself in a swamp filled with these creatures.

yearsoffuturepast5Years of Future Past #5 – $3.99

Marguerite Bennett, Mike Norton, Fco Plascencia

This is the final issue of the Secret Wars Tie-in, Years of Future Past. I have enjoyed how the book has used the original story as a subtle backdrop to create a whole new adventure. It allowed for the introduction of new mutant characters, which I could see making their way into future X-books. Be sure to pick up this conclusion to find out whether these mutants can prove themselves against the humans and other X-men.
