It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash you saved by avoiding going to the dentist for one more week.
My Picks:
Mark Waid, Fiona Staples
This will be the final issue of Archie with the wonderful Fiona Staples on art duties, before Annie Wu takes over. Mark Waid continues to creatively build the characters, but a new family has come to town and the rest of Riverdale is going to have to do some adjusting. The teens of Riverdale High are also in for a surprise when the lovely Veronica makes her first appearance.
Zac Gorman, Andrew Maclean, Nick Filardi, CJ Cannon
A fantastic companion series to the hit TV series, this comics is always full of laughter and hi-jinx. This issue follows the Ball Fondlers, a team of heroes from a TV which appeared within a Rick & Morty episode from season 1. Andrew Maclean (Head Lopper) is a guest artist on this issue, and I look forward to seeing what crazy action Zac Gorman has planned for this team.
Keven’s Picks:
Justin Jordan, Kyle Strahm
Justin Jordan and Kyle Strahm continue the third chapter of their latest story arc ‘The Children’s Crusade’ in what will no doubt be a grotesquely beautiful issue as always. Strahm’s illustrations, inspired by Carpenter’s The Thing no doubt are vile at times and touching at others, sometimes clashing the two together as Jordan weaves a post-apocalyptic tale like no other.
Book of Death The Fall of Harbinger – $3.99
Joshua Dysart, Kano, Raul Allen
New York Times Best-Selling Author Joshua Dysart (Imperium) is set to deliver an epic showdown in the latest Book of Death tie-in from Valiant Comics as Peter Stanchek, the Renegades, the Harbinger Foundation, the Bleeding Monk, and Toyo Harada’s Imperium all reach their terminus. Kano’s mindbending skills as artist are always a welcome addition to any book and Valiant has been crushing it as of late making this well worth your time and money.
Colder Toss The Bones #1 – $3.99
Paul Tobin, Juan Ferreyra
Eisner Award Winning writer Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra return to the horrifying world of Colder in one of Dark Horse Comics’ most haunting series. After Declan has turned into a reluctant hero, he’s hot on the trails of the monstrous Nimble Jack who floats freely between Earth and a dark reality known as The Hungry World.
Extra pulls: Morning Glories #48, Sons of The Devil #5, Spawn #256, Aliens Vs. Zombies #3, Zombies Vs. Robots #9.
