TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 10/26/16: SKEPTICS, BLOODSHOT & LAKE OF FIRE

Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week (or last month), but here is a list of new series starting this week, which I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. I have chosen to highlight five promising new titles to consider picking up this week.

Bloodshot U.S.A. #1 – $3.99

Valiant Entertainment – Jeff Lemire, Doug Braithwaite, Brian Reber, Kano

Project Rising Spirit – America’s greatest exporter of classified weapons technology – has achieved a breakthrough: a contagious, airborne nanite dispersion prototype that can turn the population of any city into an army of indestructible soldiers. A doomsday virus capable of destroying an enemy nation from the inside out. A machine-made pathogen that can completely rewrite human physiology…and hardcode every man, woman, and child with the same cutting-edge technology that created their greatest weapon: Bloodshot. But now…Project Rising Spirit’s top-secret contagion has been released onto the streets of America’s greatest metropolis: New York City. As mayhem engulfs Manhattan, Bloodshot must lead the most dangerous invasion ever waged on American soil and keep a runaway pandemic from toppling armies and governments…and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

Detective Comics #943 – $2.99

DC Comics – James Tynion IV, Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandes, Jason Fabok

“THE VICTIM SYNDICATE” part one! Batman can’t save everyone-innocent people sometimes fall in the war against evil that he’s declared in Gotham. But what happens when those victims start to fight back…and they don’t only blame the criminals who shattered their lives? Batman’s never faced an enemy like this, and his team may find themselves questioning everything they know about what heroes do!

Lake of Fire #3 – $3.99

Image Comics – Nathan Fairbairn, Matt Smith

The small band of surviving crusaders and heretics struggles to come to grips with the alien menace that has cursed the land. A decision must be made- do they try to run, or are they compelled by their faith to track the devils and take the fight to them, even if that means marching through the very gates of Hell itself?

Seven to Eternity #2 – $3.99

Image Comics – Rick Remender, Jerome Opena, Matt Hollingsworth, Rus Wooton

Now face to face with the God of Whispers, enslaver of worlds, all that stands between Adam Osidis and his heart’s every desire is one simple compromise, to bend the knee.

The Skeptics #1 – $3.99

Black Mask Comics – Tini Howard, Devaki Neogi

A stylish, political adventure about a pair of hip, clever teens who fool the world into believing they have superpowers. It is the 1960s. The Russians have the A-bomb, the H-bomb, and now the most terrifying weapon of all: a pair of psychically superpowered young people. Terrified and desperate, the US top brass scours from coast to coast in search of psychic Americans. Enter Dr. Isobel Santaclara, an eccentric illusionist and grifter who has recruited two teenagers and trained them to trick the US government, the Russians, and the whole world into believing they are dangerous psychics. The Skeptics is a pre-punk period piece, a sort of honest, unfuzzy, non-nostalgic look at the Cold War in DC.

Extra Pulls: Frostbite #2, Tarzan & Planet of the Apes #2, Saga #39, Rick & Morty #19, Vigilante Southlands #1
