TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 11/11/15: CONSTANTINE, THE GODDAMNED & ZODIAC STARFORCE

by | Nov 11, 2015

Wednesday approaches, and new comics are almost within our reach. So you may be like me and still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash you saved by avoiding going to the dentist for one more week.

constantine6Constantine the Hellblazer #6 – $2.99

Ming Doyle, James Tynion IV, Riley Rossmo

Constantine is one of those books that I had kinda of forgot about. I had been picking up the issues, but it was not until the last one that I got around to reading them. That being said, I was making a huge mistake. James Tynion IV and Ming Doyle do some creative construction of Constantine’s past, accompanied by Riley Rossmo’s fantastically styled artwork. It appears that while Constantine was away, New York has become overwhelmed with monsters and demons. Will he have what it takes to get a handle on this mystic chaos?

goddamned1The Goddamned #1 – $3.99

Jason Aaron, R.M. Guera, Giulia Brusco

The Goddamned is the biblical story you wouldn’t have heard at church. Set just before the flood, this is a time of death, despair and unbelievable destruction. Coming from the creative minds of Jason Aaron and R.M. Guéra, known for their amazing series Scalped, readers will get a glimpse at the carnage humans had to endure before the world reset itself.

illuminati1Illuminati #1 – $3.99

Joshua Williamson, Shawn Crystal, Riley Rossmo

If you aren’t familiar with Joshua Williamson’s other books, Ghosted, Nailbitter & Birthright, you should be. I am excited to see what Williamson can do when given control over some of Marvels small time villains; The Hood, Titania, Mad Thinker, Thnuderball, Black Ant and Enchantress. A book centring around “bad guys” isn’t new territory for a Marvel book, Thunderbolts and most recently Superior Foes of Spider-Man, both being popular and well received. Regardless of the readers reaction, It is always nice to see some minor characters make it to the pages, and I think this book is going to be a hit.

wicdiv16The Wicked + The Divine #16 – $3.50

Kieron Gillen, Leila Del Duca, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson

It is easy to say at this point that I never really know what is going to be instore for the characters of The Wicked + The Divine. It is this unpredictable-ness that keeps me coming back month after month. While regular artist Jamie McKelvie is taking a break, the book has been featuring some amazing guest artists, this issue being Leila Del Duca. Luca is probably most known for her work on another great book Shutter, and is sure to be a nice addition to the WicDiv team for this issue.

zodiacstarforce3Zodiac Starforce #3 – $3.99

Kevin Panetta, Paulina Ganucheau, Jacob Wyatt

I had somehow missed Zodiac Starforce when it premiered a couple months ago, and had to hunt down the first two issues. Now I’m hooked. This book is packed full of bright colours and great illustrations. Unlike many comics stories, Zodiac Starforce picks up years after years the team has dissolved, and are brought back together to ward off monsters and demons and defeat the evil goddess Cimmeria once again.
