TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 12/23/15: VENUS, DOCTOR MIRAGE & HELLCAT

by | Dec 23, 2015

Wednesday approaches, and new comics are almost within our reach. So you may be like me and still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash that you found inside those Christmas cards that arrived early from your grandparents.

drmirage1Death Defying Doctor Mirage Second Lives #1 – $3.99

Jen Van Meter, Roberto de la Torre, David Baron, Dave Lanphear, Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic,

I can’t really recommend Valiant titles enough to comic readers. Valiant Enteretainment have proved themselves as a publisher of high quality story telling, with various teams of amazing creators. It is unique books like Death Defying Doctor Mirage which deal with topics of death, after life and the possibility of using spells and magic that lure me into the entwined universe of characters Valiant is constructing. With hand-picked, Harvey Award nominated creative teams like Jen Van Meter and Roberto da la Torre, readers cannot go wrong taking a chance on comics like these. So this week, be sure pick up the first issue of what will likely be a great series.

patsyhellcat1Patsy Walker, A.K.A Hellcat #1 – $3.99

Kate Leth, Brittney Williams, Megan Wilson, Joe Sabino, Clayton Clowes

For those readers that bindge watched Jessica Jones on Netflix last month, and couldn’t get enough of Trish Walker, be sure to pick up Patsey Walker, A.K.A Hellcat. Though there may be a few differences between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Comics Universe, I am sure that Hellcat will certainly be entertaining. With Kate Leth on writing duties, I have hopes that PWAH will have the fun and adventurous tone the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl has. Brittney Williams is on art duties with colourist Megan Wilson, and the bright colourful pages are reminiscent of the original Patsy and Hedy comics of the 50s and 60s.

rick&morty9Rick & Morty #9 – $3.99

Zac Gorman, CJ Cannon, Cat Ferris, Marc Ellerby, Ryan Hill

The Summer of the Rick-less Dimension teams up with Rick and Morty when faced with the evil Morty attempting to eliminate all of the Ricks of the multiverse. Sometimes I find that with all the serious comic titles I am reading on a regular basis, Rick & Morty is the perfect book to sit down with for a good laugh and a little adventure. It is so great that we get the treat of this book while waiting for another season to air on television.

saga32Saga #32 – $2.99

Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples

I feel like there aren’t many more positive things that can be said, that haven’t already stated about Saga. If there is anyone you know who is not reading Saga, it is your duty to get them started by picking up this issue, and possibly some back issues or previous trades. This book is always a pleasurable read, and always keeps me guessing what is going to happen next.

Venus1Venus #1 – $3.99

Rick Loverd, Huang Danlan, Margio Meniz, W. Scott Forbes

Venus explores what the future holds for collecting resources once Earth’s have been depleted. A team of American astronauts are sent to Venus with the hope of discovering some new source mineral that could aid the remaining people of Earth. Their ship crash lands on the harsh, deserted terrain and the crew will have to quickly adapt to this unfamiliar landscape to assure their survival. This new Sci-fi title from Rick Loverd and Huang Danlan looks like an exciting new book.
