Top 5 Game of Thrones Episodes

WINTER. IS. HERE.

The much-anticipated final season of Game of Thrones airs this Sunday April 14th. Many regard GOT as the greatest television show of all time, and rightfully so considering each episode is great. It only feels right to rank the top 5 episodes of the series before the new season starts. Let’s take a look below.

Honorable Mentions:

  • “Baelor” – Season 1
  • “Valar Morghulis” – Season 2
  • “Blackwater” Season 2
  • “Mysa” – Season 3
  • “The Watchers on the Wall” – Season 4
  • “The Children” – Season 4
  • “Hardhome” – Season 5
  • “Mother’s Mercy” – Season 5
  • “Home” – Season 6
  • “Beyond the Wall” – Season 7
  • “The Dragon and the Wolf” – Season 7

5. The Lion and the Rose – Season 4

I didn’t watch GOT as it aired, but I can imagine that this episode shocked everyone when it came out. To see a main character like Joffrey die this early in the season was brilliant and the directing in the episode is very concise.

4. The Spoils of War – Season 7

This episode is one the best in the series because it’s really the first time we see two of main characters on opposite sides face off against each other. It forces the viewer to take a side. Not to mention the shot of the dragon breathing fire on the Lannister defense line is SOOOOO COOL.

3. The Rains of Castamere – Season 3

Arguably the most shocking episode of the entire series, “The Red Wedding” as its nicknamed absolutely takes your breath away in the last 10 minutes. The directing is absolutely incredible and the episode proves to be a driving force for the remaining Starks throughout the show.

2. The Winds of Winter – Season 6

The opening scene in this episode features the best score segment in the entire show. Cersi gets her revenge, Tyrion and Daenerys get closer in their professional relationship, and Bran discovers an important secret. So many important things happen in this one and the ending shows us what we’ve been waiting for since the beginning of the show: Daenerys setting sail for Westeros.

1.  The Battle of the Bastards – Season 6

This episode might be the greatest episode of television ever. The way it’s shot is more impressive than some feature films with bigger budgets. Seeing Ramsay and Jon face off is something that “epic” doesn’t even describe properly.
