It’s 2016 and that means an entire new year of movies. I had such a hoot writing about all the movies of 2015 (especially picking my ‘winners’) that I’m excited to do it again. I have a feeling this year is going to be good.
#6. Ghostbusters
I’ve been hearing about this for such a long time. Like so many of you, I’ve been longing for a sequel to the old Ghostbusters movies. And now, finally finally finally, we get one. I don’t know why we need an all female team of ghostbusters and I don’t know why people would be upset that there’d be an all female team either, but I’m confident that I’ll find the answer to at least one of those when I see Ghostbusters in 2016.
#5. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
What a brilliant premise – take the classics and add zombies. Unfortunately I could never get into the actual book; the prose in it was too dense, too like the 1813 original (my attention span is a little on the short side). I put it down and always meant to pick it back up again. Now I don’t have to, I can just see the film. Maybe that will spur me on to try that damn book again. I expect this movie will be proof that zombies make everything better.
#4. Deadpool
Does anybody else feel like this was the role Ryan Reynolds was born to play? I’m sick to death of comic book flicks but I’m going to see this one. I’m not going to go into this too much, after all they’re already showing trailers to it and I expect there’s more hype coming so best not to add to it.
#3. Warcraft
I’ve played World of Warcraft but (as I hate all other people I encounter on line) I never really made it very far. Still, I’ve always been very impressed by how much effort Blizzard has always puts into the story of their games. Video games don’t necessarily lend themselves to high drama very well, so it’s going to be nice to see what they can do with a medium that’s meant for it. Plus I’ve seen the trailer – it looks staggeringly beautiful.
#2. Gods of Egypt
This is another film I’ve put on this list based solely on the visuals of the trailer. There were big monsters and special effects and loads of shirtless men. I must see this as soon as it comes out, it looks fantastic. Or it might be awful but I expect I’ll love it just the same.
#1. Zoolander 2
The number 1 most anticipated movie for me in 2016 is Zoolander 2. The original was one of my favorite comedies of all time. It’s just so funny! I loved it so much that it’s possible I ruined it for all my other friends with my overwhelming enthusiasm for it. I promise not to make the same mistake again so, very quietly and sedately, I will politely express a desire to see Zoolander 2 as soon as is humanly possible ohmygodIcan’twait.
It is going to be a great year.
