From Universal Cable Productions, Blumhouse Productions and a script from Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle), comes the Tremors TV series. Starring Kevin Bacon, the show is gearing up to release a pilot for the SyFy network.
After numerous direct-to-video sequels and a doomed attempt at a TV series in 2003, the Tremors franchise is heading back to television to continue forth from the cult classic 1990 film. None of this seems too crazy, but add original star Kevin Bacon into the mix and you can consider my curious… Bacon has been absent from all the direct-to-video sequels, but he’s always been fond of the original movie and according to Screen Daily, as a producer on this new Tremors show, he has news about finally landing a network.
“We are going to do a pilot for Syfy. It’s the only character I’ve ever played that I was interested in exploring 25 years later. It [‘Tremors’] is a really good movie. I don’t go back and watch my movies but because we were doing this one, I had to go back and look at it. It’s just the idea of this loser who is living a very ordinary life and has an extraordinary experience with these monsters and becomes, for a moment, a hero.”said Bacon.
Other Tremors stars Fred Ward and Michael Gross have been involved with the direct-to-video sequels, but it’s not known at this time if they’ll be on board with Bacon’s new TV series. I would love for them to be included myself, but who knows what will happen. I’m still kind of floored that Bacon is so fond of resurrecting his character from Tremors at all to be honest – let alone doing so in a TV series. Bacon can currently be seen on Amazon’s series ‘I Love Dick’.
