Celebrate Reading and Literacy with the Lethbridge Public Library!

The Lethbridge Public Library is proud to join communities across the country in a national celebration of literacy, storytelling, and the literary arts, by bringing The Word On The Street Festival to Lethbridge for the 6th year in a row.

The Word On The Street Festival is growing into a signature event in Southern Alberta, where we present established and emerging authors, storytellers, informative panel discussions, demonstrations and workshops, live music, tons of activities and a bustling marketplace. We strive to create a FREE local festival that represents the diversity of our community, is accessible to all ages, and most importantly is well attended, lively, and fun!

Check out the official site HERE for the full line-up and info.

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, head out to the Lethbridge Public Library (5th Ave. S. and 8th St. S.) from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. It’s FREE – it’s fantastic and you can bring the whole family. There will be a kids corner, teens section and more for adults too so if you’re looking to meet an author, or just pick up a new book – this will be the place to do it.

Vinegar Teeth — art by Troy Nixey

The Word on The Street is my favourite annual Lethbridge event and the festival continues to grow and attract a very cool array of writers and creators from all over the spectrum. Troy Nixey is an incredibly talented artist and writer who you may know from Darkhorse Comics and his collaborations with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola — Jenny Finn being one of the most twisted series that comes to mind. Nixey, who grew up in the city of Lethbridge, is also a talented film director as well, having helmed the bigscreen reboot of ‘Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark’ which was produced by the Academy Award winning Guillermo Del Toro.

Faith Erin Hicks is the Eisner Award-winning writer and artist of The Nameless City graphic novel series, which is one you should definitely be picking up to read alongside your kids. Hicks has also worked on the fantastic The Adventures of Superhero Girl and The Last of Us: American Dreams (with Neil Druckmann) to name a couple more great books. Head to http://www.faitherinhicks.com/ to snoop around for a while and catch up on all of the Vancouver resident’s work.

FRANK — art by Ben Rankel

Ben Rankel just released his debut graphic novel FRANK this year and the Calgary writer/artist deserves your attention. FRANK is a gorgeous book that dives into the insane history of the landslide that buried the town of FRANK, while adding a murder mystery into the mix just to spice things up. Visit benrankel.com for more details or http://www.renegadeartsentertainment.com/  — to check out FRANK and some other incredible graphic novels from local publisher Renegade Arts Entertainment.

Here is my review of FRANK – Check it out!
