Watchmen TV Series in Discussion Between HBO & Director Zack Snyder

by | Oct 2, 2015

Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder helmed the 2009 big screen adaptation of the classic comic book Watchmen from writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons. HBO have confirmed that preliminary talks about an HBO television series have been discussed.

“Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place.” – HBO said in a statement.

It’s not clear whether the TV series would be a prequel, sequel or another adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel but DC Comics did release a series of acclaimed prequel series under the ‘Before Watchmen’ title. If the HBO series were to happen, then an adaptation of that prequel line would be an incredible opportunity to dive deeper into the Watchmen universe.

The original film adaptation starred Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Carla Gugino and Patrick Wilson. The film grossed 185 million worldwide during it’s theatrical release which is not too shabby for a near three-hour long R-Rated comic book adaptation set in the 1980’s and focusing on characters that a mainstream audience wouldn’t recognize.
