Why The Hell Does The New Hellboy Trailer Look Exactly Like Del Toro’s Films?

From Millennium Films, director Neil Marshall, creator Mike Mignola and screenwriters Andrew Cosby/Andrew Golden, comes Hellboy. Starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) in the title role, the reboot of the Dark Horse Comics adaptation co-stars Milla Jovovich, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell, Daniel Dae Kim and Ian McShane. The film hits theaters April 12, 2019.

Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

I’m confused. The first trailer for the upcoming NEW Hellboy movie is out and it looks, sounds and feels EXACTLY like the previous two movies in the franchise from director Guillermo Del Toro. I was under the impression that when the reboot was announced initially, that it would steer more towards the darker aspects of the story and character, but I found that this preview made it look even SILLIER than the other flicks which starred Ron Perlman in the title role. While I’m not mad at this revelation, I’m puzzled because now I really find myself asking what happened between Del Toro, Mignola, Dark Horse and Lionsgate. I’m assuming that it was likely two-ish factors: creative differences and a film-able script that never materialised from Del Toro because he was busy working on another million ideas and he probably wouldn’t compromise on a lower budget for shooting the thing.

It’s kinda sad that we’ll never see the conclusion to Del Toro’s Hellboy trilogy, but at least the spirit of those films will continue on with Harbour in the leading role. The movie looks wonderful, bizarre, creepy and ACTION-PACKED. I’m still excited to see what director Neil Marshall can do with the property because he’s done some incredible work in both the horror and action genres with a tendency to create stunning action sequences with a lower budget.
