Stranger Things Season 2 Officially Announced With Cryptic Teaser & New Story Details

From Netflix, creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, comes the highly anticipated supernatural/coming-of-age mystery series Stranger Things. Starring Winona Ryder, Noah Schnapp, Matthew Modine, David Harbour, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Millie Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, and Cara Buono, the series is now available to stream all eight season 1 episodes. Season 2 will air in 2017.

A love letter to the ’80s classics that captivated a generation.” A Young boy (Noah Schnapp) vanishes. His mom (Winona Rider), friends and local police search for answers. What they find draws them into an mystery involving top-secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

Good news friends – Stranger Things is coming back for season 2 in 2017 (as if there was ever any worry!) for another NINE episodes. That’s one more than we got in season one, so let’s just enjoy quality over quantity shall we? Some more details were revealed by showrunners The Duffer Bros. via Entertainment Weekly today as well – so check them out.

“I know movie sequels get a lot of shit, but the ones we look up to aspire to pivot and do something different. There’s ‘Temple of Doom,’ ‘Aliens,’ ‘Terminator 2.’ I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he’s brilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work,” said creator Matt Duffer.

In regards to the setting for season 2, we already know that there will be a minor time jump to account for how the kids will age in real life, but here’s what Matt Duffer said about Hawkins and the surrounding area. “We will venture a little bit outside of Hawkins. I will say the opening scene [of the premiere] does not take place in Hawkins. We kinda just peeled back the curtain and revealed a tiny bit of the Upside Down. So we definitely want to explore a little bit more. There’s a lot we don’t know about the Upside Down at the end of season 1,” he said.

What about that monster? Are there more of them? Is the monster from season 1 dead?

“We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.” said Ross Duffer.

What we all really, REALLY want to know though – is what happened to Eleven? The Duffer Brothers won’t reveal where she is – but we can all likely assume she’s in the Upside-Down alternate dimension because killing her off would be a major mistake. Four new characters will be introduced into season 2 but we don’t know who they are… The nine titles in the teaser below might be episode names since there’s nine of them but we’re unsure of that too… Either way, sit back and relax knowing that Stranger Things isn’t an anthology series (thank god) and that we will continue the story of 2016’s breakout series.
