The Top 5 Reasons Why We Should Love The Hellboy Reboot

From Millennium Films, director Neil Marshall, creator Mike Mignola and screenwriters Andrew Cosby/Andrew Golden, comes Hellboy: Rise of The Blood Queen. Starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) in the title role, the R-Rated reboot of the Dark Horse Comics co-stars Milla Jovovich, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell, Daniel Dae Kim and Ian McShane. The film hits theaters January, 2019.

#5. THIS

Holy crap! That is star David Harbour in full Hellboy getup and he looks absolutely perfect. Does he resemble Ron Perlman’s Hellboy a bit? Sure he does – but that’s because this is a freaking HELLBOY movie and Hellboy should probably look like Hellboy shouldn’t he? Harbour looks jacked in this damn thing – I’m curious if he had to live in the gym or if they injected him with super soldier serum instead.

#4. Ian McShane

Ian McShane is never bad in anything he does – ever. From bit parts on Game of Thrones, to silly supporting roles in movies like Hercules (starring The Rock) – no matter the material, McShane delivers a memorable performance. The fact that he’s playing Professor Broom, the adoptive father of Hellboy, makes me giddy. I’m very curious to see how he looks and what he does with the character since John Hurt did such a brilliant job in Guillermo Del Toro’s two movies.

#3. Mike Mignola

When the man who created the character has a writing credit and gives his full blessing – you pay attention. I know fans and even some actors from the previous film are upset that Del Toro isn’t making his third Hellboy movie, but this is Mignola’s baby and I will support whatever decision he makes regarding his creation.

#2. Neil Marshall

The Descent. Doomsday. Centurion. Game of Thrones. Director Neil Marshall is known for delivering finished products that look amazing with lower budgets. He has an incredible eye for action and I love what he can do with genre films — since Hellboy isn’t necessarily a horror film, but a mishmash of the superhero realm combined with fantasy and certainly horror elements, this will definitely be his biggest challenge to date since his ambitious Doomsday epic. I trust in Marshall though and I’m excited to see what he does with Dark Horse Comics’ flagship character.

#1. David Harbour

We all know and love Stranger Things and it is certainly David Harbour’s most famous and loved performance to date, but he’s been around for a long time and he’s been delivering a string of fantastic performances for years. Even his villainous turn in A Walk Among The Tombstones was perfect and shows how frightening he can be – an aspect I’m wondering if we’ll see in his take on the Hellboy character because Ron Perlman played him as the gruff but mostly lovable hero who was getting too old for this shit. Harbour is one of my favourite actors on the planet and I’m so happy that he was chosen to carry the Hellboy torch forward.
