The Walking Dead 148: Alpha’s Leadership is Challenged…. Bad Idea [Review]

From writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard comes The Walking Dead comic series from Skybound and Image. Check out my review of issue #148.

The Walking Dead revolves around the life of Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer and his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies.

When we last saw Carl and Andrea – Lydia was pointing a gun and freaking out. Turns out – even when you bone the son of Rick Grimes, he still doesn’t take kindly to a psycho pointing a weapon at his “mom”. It still freaks me out to see Carl calling Andrea his mother. I know it’s been a while since Lori…… But it’s odd. I never found the chemistry between Rick and Andrea to be all that natural either – just sexed up survivor’s remorse. But that’s just me.

Back at Alexandria Rick, Maggie and Jesus hold a meeting with the townspeople to hatch a plan of stealth and observation on the whisperers while angry rednecks lash out at them because they won’t run headfirst into certain death. Makes sense country hat dude with stringy hair – you stupid ass. A fight breaks out and we get a nice glimpse into “old” Rick when he snaps at the dipshits.

Elsewhere Alpha has an emotional moment out in the woods after giving up her daughter to Rick. Another whisperer finds her and things don’t go so well for the dude. Alpha is a badass – she reminds me of Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road – albeit more insane, but still…. bad ass. This moment humanizes her to some degree and I like it when Kirkman does this for his villains. Speaking of which –

Issue 148 comes to a close with one of the coolest final pages in quite some time as Rick appears to be resorting to one of the most desperate pleas for help in the history of The Walking Dead. Fuck yeah.
