Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week (or last month), but here is a list of new series starting this week, which I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. I have chosen to highlight five promising new titles to consider picking up this week, plus a few extras for those who are just rolling in cash from all those lawns they mowed.
Note: Scott is on holidays but he sent me his picks this week so I’m here to deliver you all his top five pulls!
DC Comics – Scott Snyder, John Romita
‘My Own Worst Enemy’ part one! Superstar writer Scott Snyder explodes into an all-new Batman series alongside legendary artist John Romita Jr., reimagining some of the Dark Knight’s greatest villains. First up: Two-Face! Batman must take Two-Face to a destination out of Gotham City, but the duplicitous villain has a two of spades up his sleeve. Every assassin, bounty hunter and ordinary citizen with something to hide is on their tails with one goal: kill Batman! Handcuffed together on the road to hell, this is Batman and Two-Face as you’ve never seen them before!
Image Comics – Jonathan Hickman, Tomm Coker
‘MAMMON’ ALL HAIL GOD MONEY! From JONATHAN HICKMAN (EAST OF WEST, Secret Wars, Avengers) and TOMM COKER (UNDYING LOVE) comes a new crypto-noir series about the power of dirty, filthy money? and exactly what kind of people you can buy with it. THE BLACK MONDAY MURDERS is classic occultism where the various schools of magic are actually clandestine banking cartels who control all of society: a secret world where vampire Russian oligarchs, Black popes, enchanted American aristocrats, and hitmen from the International Monetary Fund work together to keep ALL OF US in our proper place.
DC Comics – Greg Rucka, Nicola Scott
‘Wonder Woman Year One’ part two! Paradise has been breached, Ares stirs, and the Amazons must answer with a champion of their own?one who is willing to sacrifice her home amongst her sisters to save a world she has never seen.
Jet City Comics – Gwenda Bond, Ming Doyle
From acclaimed writer Gwenda Bond (Girl on a Wire, Lois Lane: Fallout), this four-issue comic book series features a new stand-alone story set within the world of Bond’s exotic, magical Cirque American. As wire walker Jules Maroni prepares a spectacular routine involving the Eiffel Tower, the Harlequin – the ghostly figure haunting her and her boyfriend, trapeze artist Remy – makes his move, plunging the couple into a terrifying mystery and threatening to bring Jules’s dreams of love and glory crashing down around her.
