TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 09/02/15: DAREDEVIL, BOMBSHELLS & PLUTONIA

It is Wednesday again, I am looking at the stack of comics I have not had the chance to read from the week(s) previous, and here I am making a list of titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash from guessing the correct weight of the prize hog at the local county fair.

Daredevil #18 – $3.99

Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Matt Wilson

Another Daredevil era comes to a close. Every month, since 2011 when this team began its run on Daredevil, Mark Waid, Chris Samnee and their team create the most consistently well written and visually appealing comics on the market. It feels as though there is still so much of this story that has yet to be told, but I am not sure there is another team that could present the character in a way that would meet the standard readers have come to know. Be prepared for an emotional conclusion, this could be the end for some characters, before Matt Murdock returns to Hell’s Kitchen once Secret Wars concludes.

DC Bomshells #2 – $3.99

Marguerite Bennett, Stephan Mooney, Bilquis Evely, Ant Lucia

There is just too much to love about Marguerite Bennett’s interpretation of these characters. Though this is a Digital First title, I am glad that DC is releasing a printed version. Like the first issue, this one focuses on the different lives of the DC heroines. Though it does not look like we get a chance to find out more about Batwoman, Supergirl returns, and Wonder Woman is aided by Mera, Princess of Atlantis. This book is quite the gem, so don’t miss out.

John Flood #2 – $3.99

Justin Jordan, Jorge Coehlo, Tamra Bonvillain

Dive deeper into the wakeful life of John Flood, as he takes his new partner to investigate a case he has been working on. If John plans on working with someone to track down the serial killer, he has to be sure that they are aware of his unique approach and style to investigations. Be sure to take note of how great the art is in this book, whether it is Jorge Coehlo’s illustration or Tamra Bonvillain’s great colours.

Plutona #1 – $2.99

Jeff Lemire, Emi Lenox, Jordie Bellaire

I am sure I am not the only huge fan of Jeff Lemire’s work, especially when it is his creator-owned comics. It is exciting that this new series featuring newcomer Emi Lenox is finally in stores this week. Based on the previews, this creative duo seem to have a perfect match when it comes to writing and art style. I cannot wait to get sucked into this new superhero story, with young friendship and exploration.

Thors #3 – $3.99

Jason Aaron, Chris Sprouse, Goran Sudzuka

Thors is a book I could read on a regular monthly basis. Unfortunately, I do not expect that Battleworlds police force will survive the results of Secret Wars. The Thors finally have a lead in the case of the murders, but how helpful is Loki going to be?

Extra pulls: Hail Hydra #2, Lazarus #19, Material #4, Midnighter #4, We Stand on Guard #3
