TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 12/16/15: ILLUMINATI, THE GODDAMNED & WEIRDWORLD

Wednesday approaches, and new comics are almost within our reach. So you may be like me and still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash you saved by not getting Star Wars tickets in time.

The Goddamned #2 – $3.99

Jason Aaron, R.M. Guera

After a very strong first issue, Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera return for the next instalment of this biblical epic. After taking care of an entire gang of brutes, Cain continues his journey across the barren wastelands of Earth, but will have to watch his back as another pack are following closely behind. With only 2 issues out this year, this title is still one of my faovirtes of 2015, and will be one to watch out for in the upcoming year.

I Hate Fairyland #3 – $3.50

Skottie Young, Jean-Francois Beaulieu

It is odd how a main character as annoying as Gert can be so fun to read. So it is not surprising that Queen Cloudia, of Fairyland, has had enough is on a path to get rid of Gert after many years. As if one child wasn’t enough in Fairyland, Gert comes face-to-face with Happy, which I can only assume will not end calmly. I cannot applaud Skottie Young for bringing this idea to life, make sure you are adding it to your pull lists.

Illuminati #2 – $3.99

Joshua Williamson, Shawn Crystal, John Rauch, Riley Rossmo

The first issue of Illuminati could have been longer, because I only started to really get a feel for Joshua Williamson’s writing in the last few pages. I look forward to seeing a bit more of the rest of the team The Hood has assembled, and what he has planned for these uniquely gifted individuals. Accompanied by Shawn Crystal and John Rauch’s artwork, this was one of the stronger All New All Different Marvel books I have got to read so far. Added bonus for the great Riley Rossmo cover art.

Klaus #2 – $3.99

Grant Morrison, Dan Mora

After having a productive evening creating an army of magical, living toys, Klaus is headed back into Grimsvig to aid its people. It really is too bad this series wont conclude at Christmas, never-the-less this imaginary story of Santa Claus’ origin will continue to entertain even once this festive season passes. Take part in the holiday cheer and pick up Klaus #1 and #2.

Weirdworld #1 – $3.99

Sam Humphries, Mike Del Mundo

Weirdworld was one of the few Secret Wars tie-in books that I really enjoyed. Nice to see Jason Aaron handing over the writing duty to Sam Humpries, while the beautiful art style of Mike Del Mundo remains. The aspect of Weirdworld that is most interesting to me is the idea of being thrown into the fantastical, unpredictable-ness a world full of sorcery and magic.

Extra pulls: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3, Super Zero #1, Power Up #6, Tokyo Ghost #4, The Wicked+The Divine #17
